![]() It was incredibly fast-paced and moved super quickly. Add some rising action! Make the story entertaining at least! The ending was almost the exact opposite, though. There was very, very, very little excitement to keep the story moving, and it felt like the first half of the story was exposition, followed by a lot of climax, and then very brief denouement. After some “research”, a lot of online reviewers agree with the quality of the depiction, so that’s good!Īs for some specifics of the story, I will say that I really struggled with the beginning of the book. While I have nothing to really compare this mutism story with, I do feel that the author did a great job at depicting the life of a person with mutism. That was totally new for me in YA! I had never read a story with it before… or since. ![]() ![]() Review: The main selling point in this story for me was the mutism storyline. While trying to uncover the truth behind her family secrets, she must also uncover her deepest traumas and find her voice again. Her silence becomes such a big part of her that she can’t seem to talk anymore at all, which causes problems for her friendships and family. ![]() Summary: Elise is attending public school for the first time ever, but after a series of mistakes, she decides it’s best if she just doesn’t talk at all. ![]()
